Call for Applications: GATESOL Journal Editorial Team
The GATESOL Journal, which publishes articles that focus on theory, research, pedagogy, and educational policy related to the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, is currently accepting applications for an Associate Editor and/or Senior Editor position. The Associate and Senior Editors serve as part of the editorial team by conducting the initial review of submitted manuscripts, managing targeted areas of the journal, overseeing the review and publication process, and ensuring the quality and timeliness of published material through the selection of appropriate, well-qualified, and responsible reviewers.
Members of the Editorial Team are expected to:
- Work to ensure a high-quality, fair, and timely review process.
- Assist in identifying appropriate reviewers, secure their agreement to perform reviews, and ensure that the reviews are submitted in a timely manner.
- Maintain a complete and accurate record of the status of each manuscript.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the roster of manuscript peer reviewers.
- Participate in editorial team meetings and conference calls to discuss strategies for soliciting papers, reviews of papers in the pipeline, and other editorial matters.
- Collaborate with other team members to uphold the journal policies, and update them as appropriate.
- Promote and serve as an ambassador for GATESOL Journal both within and beyond GATESOL-sponsored events.
The minimum qualifications to join the Editorial Team include:
- Experience in the field(s) of multilingual education, applied linguistics, SLA, TESOL, and/or related fields.
- Excellent communication skills, including professional writing.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- A willingness to learn new skills.
- A desire to be part of a dynamic team.
The preferred qualifications of a Senior Editor include:
- A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in multilingual education, applied linguistics, SLA, TESOL, or related field.
- Substantial experience in publishing scholarly works.
- Extensive experience in reviewing for publication.
- Knowledge of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition formatting guidelines.
The preferred qualifications of an Associate Editor include:
- A bachelor's degree in multilingual education, applied linguistics, SLA, TESOL, or related field (although a master’s degree is preferrable)
- Experience in publishing scholarly works.
- Experience in reviewing for a journal.
- Familiarity with the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition formatting guidelines.
